SUMMARY:Dharma and Recovery Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Information and Registration\nJoin us for a unique Off-Grid Ret
reats' meditation retreat combining traditional Buddhist practices with re
covery work in nature. Primarily conducted in silence\, the retreat focuse
s on insight meditation and heart practices\, along with interactive exerc
ises\, talks\, and meetings. Led by Kevin Griffin &amp\; Paula Snow\, we l
earn to practice mindfulness in all activities\, whether formal meditation
 \, movement\, speaking\, listening\, or eating.\n\nParticipants practice N
oble Silence outside of the interactive exercises and 12-Step-style meetin
gs. All recovery paths are welcome\, whether Twelve Step\, Recovery Dharma
 \, substance\, process\, or relationship-oriented. The intensive nature of
the retreat allows for profound personal openings\, insight\, and transfo
rmation. The support of the community carries us through the sometimes cha
llenging\, sometimes inspiring elements of this deep inner work.\n\nPartic
ipants must be at least 30 days sober and clean. But no prior meditation e
xperience is required.\n\nThis retreat will reside at Shelterwood Collecti
 ve\, a Black\, Indigenous\, and LGBTQ-led community forest and retreat cen
ter. Comprised of 900+ acres\, Shelterwood Collective is nestled above the
Russian River in Sonoma County\, CA\, on Unceded Kashaya and Southern Pom
o territory.\n\nOur sliding scale lodging options are listed below. Unless
  specified otherwise\, lodging is all inclusive with a bed\, bed frame\, b
edding and pillow. Click the "Register HERE" button for more.\n\nSingle be
drooms in shared cabins with kitchenette &amp\; bathrooms\n\nSingle pre-bu
ilt glamping bell tents (w/ elevated cot\, sleeping pad\, sleeping bag and
pillow)\n\nTwin bed in large shared bunk-room with bathroom (up to 3 ppl
 / room)\n\nTwin bed in large shared bunk-room (up to 4 ppl / room)\n\nBYOT
ents or Vans (participants to bring their own sleeping amenities - cot\, p
ad\, sleeping bag and pillow)\n\nRetreat Cost\nOur retreat fees only cover
basic costs: food\, cook\, site fee\, administration costs\, and other in
cidental expenses. These fees are priced on a sliding scale (based on the
lodging you choose) to allow each participant to pay for what is most appr
opriate for themselves. We also provide a scholarship option for those who
are unable to pay our lowest sliding scale fee.\n\nRetreat fees do NOT in
clude compensation for Kevin &amp\; Paula (time spent planning &amp\; teac
hing) or for Off-Grid Retreats (time spent organizing). On the final retre
at day\, you will be invited to share dana (AKA to donate) to the Retreat
Teachers and to Off-Grid Retreats.\n\nDana\, the Pali word for generosity\
, has supported Buddhist cultures for 2500 years. In Asia\, monks &amp\; n
uns offer teaching and lay people fill their begging bowls each morning as
they walk through the village on alms rounds. It is a beautiful exchange
in which the hearts of both giver and receiver are opened in joy and grati
tude.\n\nRetreat Teachers\nKevin Griffin is best known as the author of On
e Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps. A longtime Buddhist pra
ctitioner and 12 Step participant\, he is a leader in the mindful recovery
movement and one of the founders of the Buddhist Recovery Network. He tra
ined with leading Western Vipassana teachers Jack Kornfield\, Joseph Golds
tein\, Ajahn Amaro\, etc. His teacher training was as a Community Dharma L
eader at Spirit Rock. He began teaching meditation in 1996 while working a
s a technical writer. He teaches internationally in Buddhist centers\, tre
atment centers\, professional conferences\, and academic settings. His eve
nts range from evening classes\, to daylong workshops\, and longer silent
retreats.\n\nPaula Snow is a graduate of the Mindfulness Meditation Teache
r Certification Program with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. Her practice i
s rooted in traditional Buddhist lineages and extensive training in Asia.
Her instruction has both ancient precision and modern accessibility. Paula
is currently training to teach Dharma &amp\; Recovery with Kevin Griffin
and has 10 years in recovery. She serves as an International Ambassador to
Bhikkhunis actively supporting equality in the global monastic community.
